Canyon Crest Academy is a public high school located in Carmel Valley, in north San Diego County. Although the school has developed a sterling academic record (it has some of the highest standardized test scores in the county) since it was founded in 2004, a heavy emphasis has for long been placed on the arts. Programs exist on campus to cater to everything from videography to dramatic theater, and the free-thinking, dynamic spirit of the student body was encapsulated by the fact that it was CCA students who organized the very first TEDxYouth@SanDiego. The Proscenium is considered a centerpiece of and a testament to the artistic ethos of the school, as it provides a modern, state-of-the-art space for productions. It hosted the inaugural TEDxYouth@SanDiego event on November 20, 2011, as some 300 students from around the county filled the arena to witness a moving and inspiring speaking line up.
